Alright kids, it's get-some-fresh-juicy-info time. We will in the near future hold a devchat with DICE, the developers of the new Battlefield 2142 in their channel #battlefield2142
I assume the game is familiar enough that it needs no introduction from me. What we want you to do is to come up with questions regarding the game to ask the developers. We want to have these questions as early as possible to give DICE good time to prepare some interesting answers for us.
So go ahead, come up with anything you want to know about Battlefield 2142 and post your questions in this thread! Feel free to point any Quakenet friends you have that might be interested to this thread aswell. The more questions, the better!

Will you stop patching BF2 now, when BF2142 is released or will we get more patches to BF2?

Ok, here's a long one!
BF2 is getting pretty shaped up with all the bugs and stuff, but this one has bugged me since the BF2 demo.
Whenever I stand still or circle strafe while I'm keeping my mouse in motion the graphics engine starts
to stutter, as you can see in this (crappy) demonstration: http://media.putfile.com/BF2ryckningar
(Pause to read the text, it's in swedish so you might wanna send it to the guys in Stockholm )
Standing still and moving the mouse around = Stuttering.
Strafing while moving the mouse around = Stuttering.
Only walking/sprinting backwards and forwards while moving the mouse around = No stuttering.
Moving the mouse while in a vehicle (any vehicle) = No stuttering.
Freecam = No stuttering.
I can't really figure it out, but it seems that the stuttering only appears while you're running around on foot.
It doesn't have anything to do with either the FPS (above 200, still the same stuttering) or my computer (Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 7900 GT - other games runs fine).
Many people have the same problem and we can't seem to find a solution. We have tried everything imaginable, but nothing works.
I was hoping that you guys had fixed this annoying bug in BF2142, but nope, it's there to...
I (and several others) would really appriciate if you took some time to try and figure out what's causing this.
Thanks in advance and keep up the good job!

Will bf2142 be complete when its released, or will the players receive "once in a month" gameplay changing patches that make older players leave the game?

Dont forget we asked for questions, not for articles. So that would be "Are the stuttering issues on BF2 been fixed on BF2142?"

Hehe, yeah, but in case they don't got a clue what I'm talking about i found it necessarily to describe the problem as thoroughly as I could.
And, no, the stuttering is not fixed in BF2142. :/
I've got another question. How come there is no smoke puffs, like in BF2, when shooting at someone? I miss them...

Some Questions from our community:
1. Why won't there be Jets in BF2142?
2. How about giving some "basic unlocks" to the players already (f.ex grenades ect)?
3. Why weren't COOP, Singleplayer and Lan-Servers included with the Demo?
4. Will there be "Booster Packs" for BF2142? Will there be new Weapons/Maps/Vehicels included or even new gampley modes (f.ex more "objective based" modes)? Any plans about this?
5. If new maps were released with the boosterpacks and a patch for compartibility ist scheduled (as we saw it with bf2): How about to integrate the boosterpack-map as a "demo-map" for non-boosterpack-owners?
6. Will "Vehicle Drop" and "Inf-Mode" be shipped with the full bf2142? If not, will it be integrated later (with a patch)?
7. Why isnt there a possibility to spot -for example- "destroyed bridges","UAVs" or enemy mines with the CommoRose?
We and our Community are looking forward to some interesting answers

here we go again:
8. A lot of BF2-issues got fixed with BF2142...but are still remaining in BF2. Why is this? Can we expect Bf2 to get even with BF2142 regarding this aspect?
9. Will you allow the "Unlock-System" to be fully configurable by server-options? (So competitive eSport can be really competitive with no "odds" for players higher- or lower-leveled as their matchopponent)
10. Are there any other plans to support eSport-Community - regarding this "configuration-direction"?
11. Will you reduce Makro-Abusing by not allowing inhuman high klick-counts per second?

one more:
12. Is it possible to integrate some kind of "autodownloader" for Custom-Maps?

Okay, I have a question.
What the hell are you doing during 'optimizing shaders'? Why does it take forever? Is there some really, really heavy static analysis going on there or what...? :-)
Sweet~ game!
Best regards

I've heard that DICE have been allowing cheats/hacks in the betas. Is this true and if so why?

You guys have faced a lot of critisizm over the gradual degridation of support behind BF2, what are your thoughts about this, and are you planning on a different approach to 2142?

Tournament BF2142:
Recently there was a special Clanmode for 2142 announced. I, and a bet of clanplayers, would like to know how the clanmode exactly looks like?
Will there be unlocks that are regular with the clanmode like better Stamina, Defibrilator, Grenades etc?

Short question.. or maybe a suggestion.
Will the demo be patched to allow playing in Windows Vista?
Right now all it does when you try to start the game is crash with an error saying it cannot find the file d3dx9_29.dll.
Pretty much meaning it doesnt want to run under Directx10.
I take it for granted that the full game will run under a dx10 only environment.
thnx

(19:31:26) (@BF2142) Dead asked: Why the switch from "nice extras" kind of unlocks in BF2 to "Essential" unlocks in 2142 such as Grenades, and revive kits? Should'nt people be able to enjoy the game to its fullest right out of the box without playing on Ranked servers?
(19:31:26) (@BF2142) [DICE]Demize99 answers: Sometimes, The Journey is its own Reward.
I can answer that a rather un-desguised way rather then the way you have just answered that question, its because you would rather make money from people on the need for more ranked servers then listening and watching what the gamers want, prime example? its called BF2. get a clue.

As you can see in the logs, none of the questions asked in this thread were answered in the chat. I find it peculiar that people are asked to submit questions here, but the questions don't seem to be put forward to the devs.
